Malibu Ranch Horse Barn and Hay Barn
The new Horse Barn was a 3,600 square foot project that consisted of the integration of a metal panel kit barn with the client’s wishes for an elegant, warm and modern structure for his collection of world class equestrian jumpers. The design of the building utilized stone, clear cedar custom siding and a pitched zink roof to create an 18 foot tall single story building that would age with grace and require minimal maintenance. The exterior kit barn walls, which are exposed on the interior of the barn, are wrapped in a wood frame structure that encases all the utilities and supports the exterior cladding. The Horse Barn features nine horsestalls, a wash stall, a lounge, a full bathroom and tack room, as well as two nine foot wide sliding pocket doors and sliding shutters along the interior walkway. Custom LED pendant fixtures offer soft direct lighting and create a soothing interior atmosphere.
The Hay Barn, at 400 square feet and 18 feet tall, is the second building in the triage. Formerly a concrete block shed, the Hay Barn is clad in the same palette of materials: stone, clear cedar wood siding and a Rheinzink roof. The main room allows for the stacking of hay to ten feet high and has custom screened openings to allow for ventilation of the hay while preventing rodents from entering. The Hay Barn also features a service bathroom and lounge for the property staff.
